| The New
Haven Ballet’s ninth annual production of the Nutcracker is once again featuring
Phillip Otto’s choreography. The Nutcracker includes over 160 students from the
school as well as guest artists, with ages ranging from the youngest cake
decoration to the grandparents in the party scene.
This year, two of our guest
artists are soloists from Miami City Ballet: Jeremy Cox, one of our former
students, and Andrea Spiridonakos, who trained at the Nutmeg Conservatory for
the Arts in Torrington. Andrea will be performing the role of the Sugar Plum
Fairy and Jeremy will be her Cavalier.
In addition, Damien Johnson will return
once again to perform the Soldier Doll, as well as the Spanish and Russian
solos. Damien, who trained with the School of American Ballet and the Etgen-Atkinson
School, has just completed his first season with the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
Emily Coates will be dancing the role of Dew Drop. Emily is a faculty member at NHB who has trained at the School of American Ballet and danced with Mikhail
Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project. |
