Dear Friends,
Do you believe in dreams come true? The New Haven
Ballet does. In the past couple of years NHB has fulfilled two
long-standing dreams--performing an all-New Haven Nutcracker at the
legendary Shubert Theater and launching a community outreach program—We
also made great strides in fulfilling a third: to find a permanent home in
New Haven.
In keeping with our mission to use dance as a way of
building bridges throughout the community by enhancing the arts education
of underserved and minority schoolchildren, NHB has developed our outreach
program “Discover Dance”. This past April students at Vincent E. Mauro
Elementary School proudly took their place on the stage of the Shubert
with New Haven Ballet dancers, professional dancers from the New Haven
community, and guest artists from the internationally acclaimed American
Ballet Theatre. The dancing of those students was astonishing for kids who
had never heard of a plié a mere six weeks earlier--and their smiles lit
up the theater.
And there's more. NHB is aggressively seeking a
permanent home in the New Haven Arts District, one that will allow us to
expand our programs, increase our enrollment, and further develop our
relationship with the Shubert.
As you can see, this is an exciting time for the New
Haven Ballet. But as you already know, dreams don't come true on their
own. It takes the financial support of every friend of the New Haven
Ballet to get those students on the Shubert stage, to bring smiles to the
faces of those fourth-graders, to turn a building into a home. Please help
us now with your 2004-2005 Annual Fund gift, and together we can make new
dreams come true.
